Mini-Portfolio

My name is Travis Tran, and I am majoring in Animation/Illustration at San Jose State University.

I have loved drawing since I was a kid, I loved animated films and cartoons just as long, and I wish to become an animator, whether for theatrical films, television, or indie video games. As of Fall 2016, I am slated to graduate in Spring 2018 with a concentration in animation. I also have experience and secondary aptitude in 3D modeling, graphic design, motion graphics and video editing. I was originally aiming to pursue illustration and visual design, but I have decided to go into animation, both 2D and/or 3D, because I decided that my passion is to pursue a career where I can excercise my attention to detail, as I like to use my eye in detail a little more than my mind in imagination.

I have never taken a physics class before, and I quite simply have little aptitude and potential in any kind of general science, unfortunately. But I have never needed computer science to paint digital art in Photoshop, I never needed environmental science to paint landscapes, and I'm sure I have what it takes to apply concepts of motions, weight, and gravity into animation. I'm a man of skill more than intelligence, and my greatest strengths have always been more in my hands and my eyes, rather than my mind.

Here are some samples of my works from different subjects and mediums.

A lakeside digital painting, inspired by Swan Lake

A scene from John Steinbeck's novel, The Pearl

A scene from John Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice And Men

An example of what I can model in 3D on Autodesk Maya

And here are some video clips of what I can animate.

Sack Pantomime from ANI 114. It's a short 2D animation of a living flour sack which can move and behave like a human.

A short reel of 3D animation assignments from ANI 128a. The last clip at the beach was a shot for a class-wide group project, Day At The BeachClick here to see the full video.
